Every September people around the world celebrate National Recovery Month. Throughout the month, we will be spreading awareness, conducting interviews, and discussing the role CBD can play in recovery. This is how Infinite CBD celebrates National Recovery Month.

What is National Recovery Month?

National Recovery Month has a two-folded mission. First, this month aims to increase awareness and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health and substance abuse disorders. Second, National Recovery Month celebrates those who are in active recovery, which is an on-going and often lifelong process.

The Importance of National Recovery Month

The fact is, more people are struggling with mental health and substance abuse disorders than ever before. These issues affect a person’s livelihood, job prospects, physical health, living situations, and relationships.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 50% of all Americans, which is roughly 160 million people, will be diagnosed with a mental health disorder at some point in their life. Children and adults can be diagnosed with mental health disorders, ranging from anxiety disorders to depression, bipolar, and multiple personality disorder to name just a few.

Substance abuse across the United States has risen exponentially, so much so that tracking abuse has become difficult. Substance abuse can occur with tobacco, alcohol, prescription, and illicit drugs (like cocaine and heroin). A study conducted in 2016 might be the most telling; an estimated 20 million individuals over the age of 12 reportedly had a substance use disorder.

The aforementioned study, on page 3, also examined the interconnected nature of mental health disorders and substance abuse; the relationship between the two is undeniable.

These alarming statistics demonstrate how prevalent mental health and substance abuse disorders are in the United States. Mental health and substance abuse touches everyone and disregards socio-economic designations, state lines, skin color, age, and ethnicity. This is why National Recovery Month is so important.

How Can I Get Involved?

There are many ways you can get involved in National Recovery Month.

Volunteer for A Helpline. Not only will you learn more about your local government programs, but how to interact and work with those in crisis.

Walk or Run. There are numerous organizations that host mental health and substance abuse awareness walks throughout the year. You can volunteer at these events, participate as a team or individual, or help with fundraising.

Throughout the month of September, in cities across the United States, there are events celebrating National Recovery Month. If you are interested in finding local events, or posting an event that’s open to the public, you can do so here.

There are so many ways that you can change lives through your involvement in National Recovery Month. Best of all, you help to spread awareness and reduce the stigma of mental health and substance abuse disorders.
